Review of Batesville General Store – Clarkesville, GA

A review by Geri Campbell

About the Restaurant

Tucked away in North Georgia, Batesville General Store has been serving the community since 1904—and stepping inside feels like stepping back in time. The atmosphere is part country store, part fish camp, with quirky details that make the experience memorable… right down to the fun “fishy” silverware theme.

The store is under new ownership and they are doing a great job keeping the quality and taste as it’s always been. It’s casual, welcoming, and full of character. The staff only adds to the experience—they’re friendly, attentive, and genuinely know the menu, making it easy to feel right at home.

What I Ate & Why I Love It

For lunch, I ordered the grilled cheese on sourdough with their house-made baked potato salad—and it absolutely hit the spot. The grilled cheese was warm, crispy, and comforting with that perfect buttery crunch from the sourdough. The baked potato salad was a standout side—homemade, flavorful, and a fun twist from the usual lunch options. It’s the kind of meal that feels simple in the best possible way… good ingredients, done well.
